Pizza Margherita is one of the classic pizzas. It may be simple, but it’s just the perfect balance of flavors. This recipe will show you how to make classic Neapolitan Pizza Margherita – Easy and delicious!
Pizza Margherita ingredients
- One Neapolitan pizza dough ball (recipe for authentic Neapolitan pizza dough)
- 80g Neapolitan pizza sauce (recipe for Neapolitan pizza sauce)

- 80-100g fresh mozzarella (fior di latte) or buffallo mozzarelle
- 3-4 large leaves of fresh basil
- 5g of extra virgin olive oil
- (Optional) 5 of Pecorino or Parmesan
Instructions: How to make Pizza Margherita
- Stretch out the pizza dough.
- Spread the sauce evenly throughout the pizza base using a spoon starting from the center of the pizza. Make sure to leave half an inch at the edge of the pizza without sauce to create a nice edge (“cornicione”) that will puff up in the oven.
- Spread the mozzarella or buffalo mozzarella evenly throughout the pizza.
- Add the basil leaves.
- If you’re using any dried cheese (Pecorino or parmesan), sprinkle it evenly over the pizza with a circular motion.
- Drizzle over the olive oil.
- Bake the pizza for 60-90 seconds at 850°F (450°C). Alternatively, bake on a preheated
pizza steel in your home oven for 4-8 minutes at the hottest setting.
